Ideas for a Nautical Themed Wedding
Planning a nautically themed wedding can be so much fun, and is guaranteed to make your wedding a unique and special day. Whether you are planning a beautiful beach wedding, a wedding onboard a ship, or you simply love the water, there are wedding ideas aplenty that will suit this theme perfectly.
Motifs, colours and themes - You'll find a whole array of nautical symbols to choose to sprinkle throughout your wedding decorations. Starfish, seashells, lighthouses, seahorses, fish, anchors, sea birds, waves, sand dollars and sailboats, and much more. Colour-wise you could choose from pastel sea foam green, lots of blue of course, earthy sand colours and bright crest-of-the-wave white.
It's best to choose just a few colours and motifs to use throughout all of your wedding décor so that the overall effect is subtle and not too cluttered and busy looking.
Invitations - Once you have decided on your main colours and motifs, you can use these when choosing your wedding invitations. You may be surprised by the sheer variety of invitations that you can find online, as the nautical wedding theme is a popular one! But if you can't find what you're looking for, you can always design your own invitations.
Wedding favours - From sailing boat table card holders, to seashell adorned candle centre pieces and starfish shaped coated candy favours, the internet is by far the best place to shop for wedding favours. Again, try to find favours that tie in with your chosen motifs and colour theme.
Flowers - Specially designed bouquets are definitely the way to go. Interflora have an extensive range of bouquets on their website, where you will also find details of florists who specialise in one-off bouquet designs. Ask for a nautical theme, with thin rope instead of ribbon for example, and colours to tie-in with your colour theme, and they will create the perfect bouquets for your special day.
What to wear - When it comes to choosing wedding outfits, you want to keep it simple. The nautical theme is all about clean, crisp lines and fresh pastel shades. Choosing a simple, well tailored fresh white dress, you can add subtle nautical detail with small accessories, such as a silver starfish hair pin, or sea-themed jewellery.
You can add more colour when considering bridesmaids outfits - powder blue, or pale pastel green will always look clean and fresh. And silver sea-themed pendants make an excellent jewellery gift item for bridesmaids too.
